H's very quite Birthday this year

July and August are the most special months of the year for me. It's my wedding anniversary and H's birthday in July and E's birthday in August, which makes it the busiest time of the year for me as well. E is really growing up too fast, she helped pick presents for her dad and plan the whole birthday surprise including decorating the birthday cake. As soon as H came home from work E pointed out at the decorations we did and she blew the party horn when I brought the cake in after dinner. The only thing E wanted to do was blow the candles out it was then that it became E's birthday not papa's! Although E is getting good at using fondant it is still not quite easy for me to decorate with her around se we made a cake which E could decorate with me, we filled it with M&Ms.

This is so easy and so colourful to look at and if you use just two colours you can make any pattern you like instead of the concentric circles that I made. It is a chocolate cake covered with butter cream icing and then we started filling in the M&Ms. I made some chocolate patterns and used them to cover the sides. I didn't want to make a very big cake as I would have to finish it up with both dad and daughter preferring more savoury delights to sweet.

For the birthday banner I thought I'll print out some letters on a striped back ground but I had this idea instead while painting with E. So I painted the letters on a white sheet and cut them out, paste them on a string and you a get your very own birthday banner!

Since I didn't measure my letters I had all different sizes in the bunting but all in all it worked and were handmade which H loves always.

I just decorated a wall since H didn't want a party with fringed streamers which I made with crepe paper. Just fold your crepe paper strips and cut fringes on both sides leaving a strip in the centre un cut. Open them and you get a beautiful fringes on your streamers.

We headed to the snow on H's b'day with a picnic full of his favourite food! E loved it and she now knows that birthday's are special days so I really need to work hard for E's birthday this year!
Happy Birthday H xx

Wool Jacket for a Stylish Little Girl

It is the one year anniversary of my blog tomorrow, it seems like just yesterday that I pitched the idea of writing my blog to my husband right here in my living room. Time really does fly and it the best when it does fly as you know that you are living a very happy and fulfilled life same as me. My love for craft and sewing has never meant more than now as I am using my skills to create for my ever inspiring daughter. E is no different to any other child her age but she is very expressive and observant and she never ceases to amaze me. She loves everything around her and inspires me to keep creating something new almost everyday!

I found this woollen fabric at one of my favourite fabric stores in town and just wanted to make something special for E. So I made this kimono jacket with a flower corsage and wooden buttons down the front. It is a super easy design and I must admit that getting the fit right was a bit tricky at first as I made it too big and the shoulders dropped down but a seam at centre back helped pinch in the excess. I used cotton wadding inside and lined the jacket with a printed cotton fabric, rolled up sleeves.

Don't you just loved embellishments! I do and amongst all corsages are my favourite ones. This one I did sew onto the jacket as E loves to pull anything that she thinks she can off her clothes, she likes to see them in her hand rather than having them on her. These hand painted wooden buttons just looked so perfect that I had to have them on although it did get a bit crowded in the front.
I didn't get a chance to take pictures for sewing instructions but would definitely post some in my future posts. Another warm and snug piece of clothing for my always on the move little girl x
